Here's a #TuesdayTip!
Looking for a way to jumpstart your team into the new year?
Give this activity - šš²š¹š²šÆšæš®šš², š¦šµš²š±, šš¼š»š¾šš²šæ - a try. It was developed by Frances Frei.
I like it because:
ā”ļø It looks at the year we just finished as well as the year ahead
ā”ļø It looks at what we're doing well and what we can change
ā”ļø It's quick (unless you include the optional brainstorming of course)
ā”ļø It gets everyone talking and contributing
ā”ļø It's an activity that always sparks good conversation.
I've adapted the original activity slightly for use with a team in the New Year. But make it your own! Adjust the questions as you'd like so they fit your team's needs.
šø What is one thing you want to šš²š¹š²šÆšæš®šš², about us as a team?
šø What is one thing we should š¦šµš²š± as we head into the new year?
šø What is one thing we need to šš¼š»š¾šš²šæ as we work together?
Here's a good way to use these questions:
āļø Share the questions and ask team members to think about them and then to write/type their answers somewhere they can refer to them.
āļø Go around the group and ask each person to share their answer to the first question. What do they want to celebrate?
āļø Look for themes that emerge and take a few moments to celebrate the team's accomplishments.š
āļø Do the same for each of the next two questions taking them one at a time. As they answer, ask team members to explain their answers so everyone understands what's behind their suggestion and how the team will benefit.
āļø Optional: If time allows, prioritize the lists developed for 'shed' and 'conquer' and brainstorm actions the team can take to achieve the top 1-3 ideas.
š ššŗš½š¼šæšš®š»š š”š¼šš² - To maximize contributions and unique ideas, have everyone write their thoughts individually before sharing, otherwise they will unintentionally be influenced by one another's thoughts before stating their own.
